And I don’t mean the glamourous ones decked out in their Chanel skirt suits, jewels adorning their bony wrinkled fingers, all perfect hair and strong perfume.
I mean your regular run-of-the-mill granny.
The one you know and love. Whose kitchen table you destroyed with your crayons. Who used to give you bits of dough to play with and warned you not to eat but you did it anyway (and regretted it). Who gave you milky sweet tea in a glass. Who thought you’d choke on boiled sweets so she broke them into little bits with a poker. Who seemed to have an endless supply of toilet roll tubes for you to recreate whatever it was that Mary made on Make-and-Do that day.
THAT granny. Nana in my case.
Damn straight they can be stylish. With their floral skirts and dresses, gigantic cardigans, patterned scarfs, square handbags and treasure trove-like jewellery boxes.
