Feeling the Freshness

It’s that time of year again. Freshers Week – what your neighbours and liver have been fearing.

It’s the week when all the first years realise just how insignificant they are in the greater scheme of the college, the second years realise that they’re not in first year anymore and feel the need to judge the newbies, and the final years wander around feeling old and wishing they were back in first year. But it won’t be long before the survivors are seperated from the saps and the first years become major players in your college life.

So that’s why Freshers Week is not all about the newbies. It’s about rediscovering everything that you love about your college. It’s the week you wait all summer for but when it arrives you realise that you don’t actually want to go back to class, you just want to hang out with all your friends again. It’s the week when you see nothing wrong with getting hammered every night. It’s the week that you picture being amazing but in the end, it lets you down so hard that you can’t decide whether or not you actually enjoyed yourself because you don’t really remember anything.

Everyone tells you it was great and that you had a great time and you nod and say yeah, yet recoil in disgust when embarrassing photos are shoved your way.

But it’s ok because if you don’t remember it, it never really happened.  And you didn’t REALLY say that either.  Or do that.  Or throw that.

But if you’re supposed to start like you mean to go on, then you’re fucked.

Proper like.
